The poor/deserving children from our target community are financially supported to continue their education. 6 poor children were supported this year to the tune of INR.282000/-. The children who were once child laborers, are now pursuing higher education with our support. 32 children who were once child laborers were financially supported to the tune of Rs. 250000/- 27 children are from Musiri Panchayath and 11 are from Trichy. 7 children from Arangoor are the children of the special community called Kudu kudupaikaarar, the Tamil Soothsayers. This community gives less importance to education. It was a proud moment to see our children in all their oddities competing with the creamy layer. Drop-outs were identified and admitted in schools through NFE centers.New Life also works to protect the rights of abused children. These children were educated on their rights, safety and protection. Physical and sexual abuses are addressed. Awareness camps on child sexual abuse and evils of child labour were conducted for 1291 children.These children’s levels of education vary from 9th standard to under graduation. The norm for sanction that they should have gone to regular school for at least two years is overruled for 5 of these children as their family backgrounds are very pathetic. One of them is Selvam who is 13 years old. He is an orphan and is with aunt’s family. He is being beaten up by his uncle and aunt and is forced to sleep in the bus shelter at this young age. He is now admitted to a hostel by our efforts. A local sponsor assured to support him.You will be happy and proud to know that a boy from our Kajapet special school who was mainstreamed and wrote his 10th standard in March 2018 stood first among the other ex-child labour children in Trichy district with 75% of marks. We appreciate the special school teacher for laying a strong foundation.
