"My first memory I have attached to Ms. Vanaja and New Life NGO/MFI was from an IDLO seminar held in Sydney in 2006 on microfinance legislation and regulatory frameworks in SE Asia and the Pacific Island nations.Ms. Vanaja spoke to a group of 35 lawyers and microfinance practitioners with conviction and strength, stating that New Life had a concrete plan to more than double the number of poor women it was helping over the next 2-3 year period. At the time, I thought to myself, wow, that is one woman who means what she says. Over the years, I have noted that Ms. Vanaja, Mr. Charly and others working with New Life make few proclamations, but they are quietly working to achieve and take on more and more challenges to selflessly help the poor. Each time I meet with them, they have added unique functions and service offerings to help the poor of Tamil Nadu. The last new development was the opening of an orphanage for children of incarcerated and poor women in Trichy. I have seen many orphanages in my career, but the one created by New Life should be called a sanctuary for children, and it shows in the smiles and glow in the eyes of the children that New Life is caring for. They are a wonderful organization with whom I am proud to be in contact."
